The April 2026 Paper Pumpkin Kit, Lakeside Retreat, is filled with peaceful lakeside scenes and outdoor elements that are perfect for creating masculine cards. For this project, I used the kit supplies to create a fun Cascading Pleats Card in portrait orientation. The layered panels create wonderful dimension and allow several of the kit's beautiful patterns and images to take center stage.

I especially love how this fold gives the card movement and interest while still folding flat for mailing. The dock scene, paddles, plaid pattern, and birthday greeting all work together to create a card that's perfect for the outdoorsman in your life. This design is a great way to stretch your Paper Pumpkin supplies and create something completely different from the kit's original projects.

Card Base:

The Peaceful Pine card base measures 9-1/2" x 4-1/4" and is scored at 1", 2", 3", and 4". Turn the cardstock 90 degrees so the end closest to the 1" score line is at the top of the trimmer. Line up the cardstock at 3/4" and cut from the end to the 3" score line. Line up the cardstock at 1-1/2" and cut from the end to the 1" score line. Cut diagonally from the slit at the 3" score line up to the 4" score line and from the slit at the 1" score line up to the 2" score line. Accordion fold the score lines to create the cascading pleats. The back panel of the card is built into the card base. The 5-1/4" x 4" layer on the back panel was cut from one of the envelopes included in the Paper Pumpkin Kit.

Middle Panel:

Measures 4-3/4" x 3-1/2". The 4-1/2" x 3-1/4" patterned layer was cut from one of the kit's card bases.

Front Panel:

Measures 4" x 2-3/4". The 3-3/4" x 2-1/2" scenic layer was cut from the remaining portion of the same card base used on the middle panel.
