I have another fun alternate to share with you today using the February Paper Pumpkin kit – Celebrate Spring! 💛 I always love stretching my kits a little further, and this one was especially fun to play with because it has all kinds of fun little spring images and die cuts.

For this project, I created what I call a modified gate-fold card. It has that gate-fold feel, but the front panels don’t quite meet in the middle—which gives it a really unique look when it’s displayed and opened.

I paired elements from the kit with a few extra supplies, including Balmy Blue and Shy Shamrock cardstock and the Easter Joy Designer Series Paper from the January–April Mini Catalog. I just love how those soft spring colors all work together!
The extra paper sizes are as follows...
Balmy Blue cardstock:
-2 7/8" x 4 1/8" (basket panel - to fit the 2 3/4" x 4" floral piece cut from the kit's card base)
-2 1/2" x 2 5/8" (sentiment panel - to fit the label from the kit that measures approximately 2 3/8" x 2 1/2")
-10 3/4" x 5 1/2", scored 1 5/8" and 3 1/4" from each end (card base)
Shy Shamrock cardstock:
-Two pieces 1 1/4" x 5 3/8"
Easter Joy Specialty Designer Series Paper:
-Two pieces 1 1/8" x 5 1/4"
The left panel is probably my favorite part. I took one of the card bases with the flower design and cut it apart to fit the panel, then carefully cut around the flowers from left to right. This allowed me to nestle the basket right in between the layers, making it look like it’s tucked right into the flowers. It’s such a simple detail, but it really adds dimension and interest.
For the inside panel, I used the plain side of that same card base, which keeps everything nicely coordinated without adding extra bulk.
Watch me make this card here:
This is a great reminder that your Paper Pumpkin kits can go so much further than the instructions suggest. A few small tweaks, a little cutting, and some extra cardstock can turn one project into something completely new! And as always, if you do not subscribe to Paper Pumpkin (why is that, anyway? 😉), you can totally use this alternate gate-fold idea with other fun products!
I’d love to hear—are you a “follow the instructions” stamper, or do you like to mix things up with alternates? 😊

Oh, and this is a quick reminder to register for my 25th Stampiversary Spring Fling! Read all about Spring Fling in a recent blog post here: https://www.amyrich.net/post/celebrating-25-years-of-stamping-and-the-community-we-ve-built-together. To register for Spring Fling, do so by April 1, here.
Happy creating!
Amy
