A Peek into the Process

On Wednesday during my What's Up? Stampers!, I shared a card that I had designed on the fly. When I do that on the fly business, I often choose a stamp set first. I hadn't done anything with my new Fancy Phrases stamp set yet, so I decided that's where I was going to start. I wanted the large floral stamp to be my focal point, and choosing the colors with which I was going to color that image seemed important to choose next. Stampin' Blends were my medium of choice, so I pulled some colors and did some testing. There were a couple of colors that were NOT right. The Magenta Madness Stampin' Blends were just way too bright, so I moved on and settled with Flirty Flamingo for the largest flowers. Filling in with Purple Posy, Seaside Spray, and finishing with Just Jade, made just the right color combination for me. Next up, Designer Series Paper! With those colors - mostly soft - chosen, I decided a tone on tone look on the card base would help carry the soft tone of the card. The Playing with Patterns DSP has a Purple Posy and white side, which was the perfect addition!

Next up: the sentiment. I tried a couple of things for the sentiment. When I tried the Everyday Label Punch, it was too large. When I tried the Pretty Label Punch, it was a great fit, but needed a little something to set it off. A Basic Black circle from the Stitched Shapes Dies was perfect, so that was that! Too bad I just now realized that the Pretty Label Punch is retired. *bigtime eyeroll for myself* Oh, well. Perfection shouldn't be messed with, right?

It may be difficult to tell in the photo, but the only thing popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals on the card is the sentiment. The DSP, the floral square, and the black stitched circle are all flat. If you didn't get to watch the What's Up? Stampers! Facebook live video, you can watch here.
