A Flippin' Fun Flamingo B-day Card

Sometimes the fun of a card is in the pretty paper…and sometimes it’s in the surprise! This Flip Flap Card has both. It looks like a cute birthday card when it’s closed, but start opening it and you’ll discover that it flips one direction and then flaps open the other. I love a card that makes you stop and figure out, “Wait…what just happened?” 😂

The Mosaic Garden Designer Series Paper was my starting point for this card, since I've been working . Those adorable flamingos were just begging to be used, so I pulled out Flirty Flamingo, Crisp Cantaloupe and Basic White cardstock to coordinate with it. The Tile Garden Dies were perfect for adding some fun shapes and details, too.

Of course, I wanted to watercolor some flamingos to coordinate with the Designer Series Paper, and that presented a tiny problem: the Flirty Flamingo Watercolor Pencil wasn't in its place in the box! No worries. I started with the Melon Mambo Watercolor Pencil, keeping the color fairly light, and then blended it out with a Blender Pen.

Since I had already cut my Flirty Flamingo cardstock, and my watercoloring needed to match it a little better, I grabbed the Blender Pen and picked up a little Flirty Flamingo ink to add some darker highlights to the flamingos. Problem solved! I love that the two colors together gave me some variation while still coordinating beautifully with the paper.

And then there’s the Birthday Song stamp set. The greeting on the front gets the birthday fun started, but opening the Flip Flap reveals the rest of the joke inside. It’s such a fun pairing for an interactive card like this!

If you’ve never made a Flip Flap Card before, give this one a try! The fold is much easier than it looks, and I think the recipient will have almost as much fun opening it as you will making it.
