Technique Spotlight: Rock, Roll, and Blend with the NEW Advent Calendar!

I’m kicking off something VERY fun today—my own 12 Days of Creativity Card Series, featuring the goodies tucked inside Stampin’ Up!®’s 12 Days of Creativity Advent Calendar!

And we’re starting with this pretty slimline birthday card filled with flowers, texture, and just the right amount of ribbon. I love how the three floral panels create a cheerful little garden across the card front. The soft Petal Pink background lets those bright flowers take center stage, while all of the stitched and embossed details add plenty of texture without making the card feel too busy.

One of my favorite things about this card is the way I stamped the flowers and leaves. I’m calling it my “Rock, Roll & Blend” technique!

For the flowers, I first inked the entire stamp in Petal Pink ink, then rocked and rolled the edges of the stamp in Poppy Parade ink. I loved the two-tone effect, but the Poppy Parade created a harsher line than I wanted. So, before stamping, I used a Sponge Dauber to gently blend the Poppy Parade ink inward, softening that transition between the two colors. It gave me the beautiful shaded look I was after!

I repeated the same Rock, Roll & Blend technique on the leaves, this time using Soft Sea Foam and Shaded Spruce inks. It’s such an easy way to add depth and variation to a stamped image without doing any extra coloring afterward. And because no two images turn out exactly alike, each flower and leaf has a little personality of its own!

The “beautiful birthday wishes” sentiment layered over the ribbon finishes everything off perfectly.
